The British took control of the 50 islands in 1773 and everything has remained English until today including the police, doctors, and offshore banking centers.  BVI is a major cruising destination. All the islands are close together and most of the sailing is in protected waters. There are little restaurants scattered around the islands, and only a few "towns". The waters are clear and there are many good dive and snorkel sights with mooring balls. It's hard to go wrong here. And the cold fronts rarely come down this far. It is a sailors playground.
