Villas feature outdoor terrace with chaise lounge, dining table, handmade crochet hammock and outdoor shower. Indoor separate spacious bathroom with standing shower, his and hers separate sinks and large closets. All beds feature Egyptian cotton sheets, duvet covers and glorious down pillows. 

In keeping with its serene setting, the resort will allow no motorized vehicles on the property. At night, artificial lighting will not dim star-filled skies. Torches, adding to the tranquil ambience of this unique retreat, will light the grounds instead. 

The jungle was here before us and we believe that we are intruding upon it. For this reason, paths and walkways carefully meander avoiding older growths. Younger trees are allowed to grow within the paths, further reinforcing our philosophy.

The "Good Wish Mayan Ceremony" is essentially a reconfirmation of the wedding love vows. It is beautifully performed by a local cofrade. The ceremony involves several Mayan symbols, objects and rituals , in an absolute communion with nature. The ceremony is on the beach and it is performed in Mayan. The music of the language itself gives the experience a truly romantic touch. Guests will receive a written translation of the speech in English. The bride is dressed in a hand-made Mayan dress and the groom wears a white "guayabera". 

The Spa at Ikal del Mar 

The full service spa at Ikal del Mar--a sanctuary for the senses--offers its guests a holistic experience in the Riviera Mayan tropical spa setting. The Spa offers a steam room, Jacuzzi, Swiss showers with adjustable water pressure, and individual treatment areas. There is also a sea-side spa area for Temazcal bath, massages, facials, treatments, Tai Chi, and Yoga. 

The Temazcal bath is our specialty of the house combining a cleansing sweat bath with herbs, flowers, music, and a soothing massage. The word Temazcal, in Nahuatl language, is a combination of the words Temaz, meaning bath, and Calli, meaning home. The ceremony was practiced by the Mayans and other indigenous groups as a therapeutic and purifying ritual.

 Temazcal is the most pleasant expression of Mayan traditions in medicine. This is a very special service which consists of a steam shower based on hot stones and medicine plants. The effects are integral; it has been for centuries a space of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual purification. It is known as a sacred act and it is performed as part of ceremonial rite on the shore of the Caribbean Sea. The Temazcal is truly one of the most beautiful experiences at Ikal del Mar.

Restaurants & Bars

Azul features Mediterranean, Mexican and Mayan cuisine. (refer to it as Mexiterranean). Fresh seafood and a array of chef specialties are prepared daily. The pastry chef prepares breads, rolls, and croissants from a variety of fragrant dough and local ingredients. Favorites include Spanish olive loaf and aniz rolls. 

The wine list represents much of the world, most notable are French, Italian, and Spanish wines. Particularly suited to the night climate are  numerous offerings of Spanish Dueros and  light Italian reds. 

The Grill at the pool
Features a fresh light menu from the grill. A few of the award winning dishes are a lobster club sandwich and several varieties of cervices, served martini style at the table. An assortment of our home made frozen sorbet will keep you cool on warm days. 

The Bar at Azul
One of the most exciting places on the property overlooks the Mayan Sunset and the Island of Cozumel. Great for meeting friends for a cocktail before dinner or enjoying one of our famous desserts in the lounge. The bar also features a light bistro menu for late night snacks.
